Across 36 sites in 13 different countries, this hybrid trial collects data about the safety, tolerability, efficacy, durability, and clinical outcomes of a weekly dose of a long acting synthetic peptide analogue of Glucagon-like peptide 2 (GLP-2) in patients diagnosed with SBS-IF. The study has seven outcome measures, including adverse events, haematology, haemostasis, and the occurrence of clinically relevant changes in vital signs. The trial is utlising thousands of pieces of equipment sourced and supplied by Woodley Trial Solutions and delivered to bases in Belgium, France, and Denmark.

The key challenges

Complex logistics

Woodley Trial Solutions provided the trial organisers with equipment for both rental and purchase. Such was the rarity and complexity of the equipment required, our sourcing team’s outstanding technical knowledge became an invaluable resource – especially with post-pandemic manufacturing lead times meaning a single shipment to cover the entire inventory simply would not be possible. Simultaneously, the scope of the project was continuously adapting: multiple change requests were filed, all of which were tracked and managed through a dedicated custom-built shipment tracker that provided an instant overview of all key details including lead times, despatch dates, delivery dates, and priority equipment. Woodley Trial Solutions managed a significant number of bulk shipments during the project, consistently ensuring the client had full visibility and a granular understanding of lead times, delivery schedules and budget allocation.

Going the extra mile

There are always hurdles in complex, multi-year clinical trials, but Woodley Trial Solutions’ expertise and experience ensured momentum was always maintained. Our team used our time-proven systems and structures to ensure fast responses to change requests and provide the necessary flexibility for priority goods to be fast-tracked. Our warehousing capability provided a welcome resource in preparing large bulk shipments, covering everything from plastic buckets and paring knives through to digital thermometers, lab freezers, and centrifuges. Regular calls were instigated, maintaining open and clear lines of communication that left the client feeling supported throughout. And our experience and ability to keep track of thousands of different details enabled the trial organisers to focus on other crucial elements of the study, confident the equipment they needed would be on site, on time and on spec.
