Research Rising: Why Clinical Trials Day matters to us

20/05/2026

Every year on 20th May, the global Clinical Research community marks Clinical Trials Day - the anniversary of James Lind's first controlled Clinical Trial in 1747. This year's theme, Research Rising, was chosen by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) to celebrate the workforce that keeps Clinical Research moving: the researchers, coordinators, site teams, and support professionals whose work, day in and day out, advances patient care worldwide.

We've always valued the day. This year, we wanted to say something about it.

What Research Rising means to us

At Woodley Trial Solutions, we don’t run trials. We support the people who do. For over 35 years we’ve been supplying and managing Clinical Trial equipment - Point-of-Care Testing devices, Continuous Glucose Monitors, full kitting solutions - making sure the right equipment reaches the right site, in the right condition, wherever in the world that happens to be.

It’s unglamorous work a lot of the time. Logistics, calibration, documentation, late-night helpdesk calls from site coordinators dealing with equipment faults. None of it makes headlines. But we’ve always been clear about what it connects to.

Every shipment we send, every device we validate, every problem we fix at short notice - it’s all in service of a trial. And every trial exists because there’s a patient somewhere who needs something better than what’s currently available to them.

Research Rising resonates because that is exactly what Clinical Research does. It rises - slowly, incrementally, sometimes against the odds - and it brings better treatments with it.

The people behind the work

We made a short video for Clinical Trials Day this year. We asked our team one question: “I’m proud to work in clinical trials because...”

We genuinely didn’t know what people would say. Some answers were about the science. Some were about the sheer global scale of what trials achieve. And some were personal in a way we didn’t expect - stories of family members who had benefited from treatments that only exist because someone ran a trial. Immunotherapies. Targeted medicines. Things that simply weren’t available a few years ago, and that have given people more time.

Watch the video below. We think it says more than we could in a blog post.

Over 35 years of being part of this

Woodley has been supporting Clinical Trials for over 35 years. The trials we’ve helped equip have spanned hundreds of indications and reached patients across dozens of countries. We don’t know their names - that’s not how this works - but we haven’t forgotten they’re there.

When we support a malaria study in Africa with POCT devices and expertise, or prepare and supply Site-Ready patient kits for a complex cardiometabolic study, we know what it’s heading towards. The equipment has to arrive on time and work properly, because the alternative isn’t just an operational headache, it’s a delay to something that matters to someone.

That awareness has shaped how we work since the beginning. It’s why reliability isn’t just a selling point for us; it’s the whole point.

To everyone working in Clinical Research today

If you’re a Clinical Research professional - a coordinator, a CRA, a site director, someone keeping a trial running from the operations side, Clinical Trials Day is for you. The ACRP has built something worth celebrating around it this year, and we’d encourage anyone in the industry to mark it.

We’re glad to be a small part of this world. Genuinely glad, after over 35 years of it. And we’re proud of every person at Woodley Trial Solutions who contributes assiduously day in, day out.

Research is rising. We are proud to support.
